We’re thrilled to announce that BFI feature Pin Cushion has been announced as the opening film for Venice Critics Week.
Critics Week runs annually during the Venice International Film Festival, and selects seven debut films to premiere in competition, and two debuts to screen as special events out of competition (of which Pin Cushion is the first.) All the features screened will be world premieres.
Pin Cushion is the debut feature of writer/director Deborah Haywood, and is a coming-of-age drama with magical-realist touches, which follows teenager Iona (our Lily Newmark) and her mother Lyn (Joanna Scanlan), who move to a new town and attempt to become friends with the locals. When Iona becomes friends with a group of girls led by Chelsea (our Bethany Antonia), Iona and Lyn start to grow apart.
